Brisbane's Premium Bathroom Renovators

Frequently Asked Questions

Planning a bathroom renovation? Here, we answer frequently asked questions about budgeting, design, and materials. Whether updating or overhauling, our FAQs will guide you confidently through the process.

1. How long does a typical bathroom renovation take?

The duration of a bathroom renovation varies depending on the scope of the project, however a good benchmark is between 3 and 4 weeks for a standard bathroom overhaul. Any materials that have a long lead time can extend this time frame.

2. What is a realistic budget for a bathroom renovation?

The cost of a bathroom renovation can range significantly based on the size of your bathroom, the quality of materials you choose, and the extent of the work required. A good benchmark for a simple and modern bathroom renovation is between 20 and 25 thousand dollars, and a high-end luxury bathroom renovation with premium materials can range anywhere from 26 to 32 thousand dollars. This all depends on if services are moving, what kind of tiles and tap ware is selected, cabinetry and mirror selections and if any walls are added or removed.

3. How can I save money on my bathroom renovation?

Keep the existing layout: Changing the location of the toilet, shower, or sink is one of the most expensive parts of a renovation due to plumbing work, especially if the bathroom is located on ground floor where concrete slab cutting will be required

DIY where you can: Consider doing the painting or demolition yourself if you are comfortable and skilled enough.

Choose materials wisely: Opt for budget or even mid-range tiles and fixtures instead of high-end brands. Look for sales or clearance items.

4. What are the key stages of a bathroom renovation?

A typical renovation follows these general stages:

  1. Design & Planning: This is done during the quoting stage, where we work out the layout, as well as selections of tiles and tap ware.
  2. Demolition: Removal and disposal of old materials
  3. Framing works: Adding shower or bath shelves and repairing water damage
  4. Services rough in works: Plumbing & Electrical
  5. Sheeting: Installation of fibre cement board for the tiles to adhere to
  6. Waterproofing
  7. Tiling works
  8. Installation of cabinetry, tap ware, shower screen & electrical elements
  9. Painting works
  10. Silicone works & final clean

5. What permits do I need for my bathroom renovation?

Permit requirements vary by location and the scope of the project. A simple cosmetic update usually doesn't require a permit. However, if you are altering structural walls, or moving plumbing works, then a permit is required. The plumber will typically sort out the permit by means of submitting a form to QBCC, however, altering a structural wall requires an an application to your local council or relevant authority. Alterations can include moving or removing an existing load bearing wall, and changing a window or door. All external walls of a house are load bearing, however not all internal walls are. An engineer will be able to determine if an internal wall is load bearing,
